Chicago Show 2007

We went to Chicago to shop for new products to excite our customers.....

...and found some FUN and interesting personalities
along the way.....like Alton Brown and his favorite Japanese
Santoku knife.

He was very entertaining and explained a lot about the
metalurgy and technology that goes into knife making.

Alton certainly had as much energy in person as he
shows on TV, and although we missed it, rumor has it that
he accosted the below celebrity chef and dragged her
off the stage!

Paula Deen's words were: "Next time Mik 'ull, you'll
take care of 'em, riiiaaaattttt?"

"Sure Paula, I'd like to see that" was his response!
We later found Michael in the booth helping to explain
some of the new products that are being released
by Paula Deen.

...and we chatted a little bit about Our Lady and Son's
and living in Savannah on Wilmington Island.

If Michael wasn't helping in the kitchen, Paula would seldom
get through an entire recipe. You can tell her focus is on connecting
with the audience with sincerity and humor.

In case you haven't figured it out yet, we LOVE Paula!

We did some more wandering and found some nifty
recipe ideas in the Reynolds Wrap booth.

Yummie.......

and then it was time to see the new Mario Batali pots and pan
colors. But there was another bonus...

Mario himself. It was a mob scene and we had trouble getting close....
but the new products are awesome! Check with us in May on the new
colors and finishes.

Joann has been looking for some larger pots, pans
and tools....I think we found them. Speaking of large....

(By large I mean personality!) Emeril was there with
T-Fal and his new fryer, steamer and grill.

His assistant looks on as he explains his products.

At this point, we really needed a super hero to help
get us through the rest of the show. We had to settle for
Joann sporting onion goggles! We have got to try these.

We accidently finished the show stumbling onto
Rachel Ray, whose magazine we have just started to carry!

What a great way to end the show! We hope you will
be pleased with the NEW products that we will be bringing
in over the next few months.

Pasta Pasta Pasta by Don Brown

Until the dishwashers showed up, Don was
outnumbered, 12 to 1!

Pasta dishes are about simple fresh ingredients
and a hearty appetite!

Chef Don mixes pasta with olive oil, and fresh
ground black pepper for a refreshing quick
and healthy summer meal.

The sauce is stirred to the right consistency, and
then applied.... italian bacon, yum!

The crew enjoys the entrees and the stories from the
Mediterranean that go with it!

Sampling is always good!

The next course is up....simple but elegant.

Onto the next dish!

....which has a blue cheese sauce. Very appealing and rich!

Don finishes the final entree.......

which is a salmon cream sauce....equally delicious!

The food and company was fabulous and Don
will be joining us on the next schedule to come out soon!

Teen's Night Out

The troops were seated, Chef Jen Purcell was
introduced and the first order of business
began....what do I do with leftover chicken....

Chicken Fajitas, of course. Green and red peppers
and onions are sauteed. Don't feel like chopping...
pick up some from a salad bar!

Add some salsa and thinly sliced chicken cut
into strips, and onto the tortilla that was microwaved.....
ready in 15 minutes!

Beautiful.....

...and the kid's begin the meal!

Next it is onto Tortilla Pizza, made with flatbread....
toppings are up to the imagination!

Fresh mozzarella is grated....keep it half frozen.

The pizza assembly line is in full set up and goes
into action. Thanks Nick and Dillon.

We need more cheese!

and out of the oven they come!

All of the kids were carded, and those old enough
were served sparkling........cider.

Which went with Pasta served with doctored
marinara sauce, accompanied by additional herbs
and spices, and the secret ingredient, cream.

Delicious!

Dining quickly ensued. But wait, there's more.....
a quick demonstration on authentic French Toast.

Real french bread, egged, pan-fried and plated...

...and don't forget the confectioner's sugar
(thanks Lauren)....

...or the syrup!

The kids stand up and stretch in preparation for the last course.

Onto the desserts, and the whip cream non-believers!

Chef Jen proved that experiment and then started
with twinkies to make a quick and tasty trifle!

The accompaniment was a home-made ice cream
filled cookie rolled in your favorite topping.

We asked the kids if they like it but they were
too busy, ummmmmmm, to answer!

The evening ended with parents heading to the
grocery store to buy tomorrow's dinner ingredients!
